Golden Hind B complete League and Cup double (22 Sep 2011)Golden Hind B claimed the League and Cup double after an incredible topsy-turvy Cup final. The Hind cantered to a 3-0 lead, and at 7-2 up in the fourth game seemed to heading for an early victory. Not so... 7-2 became 7-9, followed by an 8-9 final-end decider win from Colyton pairs champ Steve to make it 3-2. Fellow pairs champ Rodney levelled the match at 3-3 in the last game to take it to a deciding triple. However, the early Musbury winners held their form (and kept their hands warm) to run out 9-1 winners in the play-off and clinch the Cup. |

Ship take Triples Cup (14 Sep 2011)Congratulations to the Ship Castaways, who won the Triples Cup at The Lamb in Axminster last night. After an epic 9-7 win against holders Golden Hind B in a semi-final which seemed to go on forever, the Axmouth team defeated Whitford Warriors 9-3 in the final, a match that was closer than the score suggests. Full results here. |

Colyton FC reign supreme... again! (28 June 2011)A fine turnout once again witnessed Colyton FC retain the double of the Singles and Pairs titles. Merv Joslin came back from 6-0 down in his semi-final against Peter Taylor (Lamb Visitors), before defeating former singles champion Mark Durston (Royal Clarence B) in the final. Steve and Rodney had a somewhat easier passage to victory, a 9-1 win in the final over Whitford Warriors sealing the title. Full results: Singles and Pairs. |

East Devon Petanque Club update 2 (28 June 2011)From Chris Bigmore:Following the two introductory sessions we held last Saturday and the previous Sunday, we took a straw poll to find out what day and times would be most popular for the regular club sessions. Coming out on top and therefore the set times for the remainder of this season are as follows: Sunday Mornings: 11am start (first session 3rd July) Thursday Evenings: 7pm start (second session 7th July) Sessions normally last for the duration of a couple of games - approx two hours. Leisure Boule will be available. Generally our names go in a hat and we draw out teams, either triples or doubles according to the number there, and then mix again for a second game. Of course players are also at liberty to compete against others they may have agreed to play, the session is very much about doing what you want to do. We do appreciate the above times will not suit everybody, or that you will be able to come to all sessions ! We will be pleased to see you wether its once or twice a week or just an occasional visit. Next winter, probably at the first AGM, we will review all the times, days etc to see if any alterations need to be made. Some, particularly the retired and semi retired amongst us, have asked about also having a midweek daytime session. This we can organise in the coming weeks, providing there is support of course, and someone delegated to look after any equipment, take fees etc. Tuesday afternoon is the suggested time for this. We are looking for some feedback on the proposal. In the meantime work has continued on the terrain so that it will be in a reasonably playable state by the first session this coming Sunday, and thank you for your patience on this. We hope to see again those that have already visited, and look forward to meeting all those who have not yet had the opportunity of coming. |

East Devon Petanque Club update (6 June 2011)From Chris Bigmore:As promised, I am writing to update you on the situation regarding the start of open sessions at the club. The terrain is laid and looking good but unfortunately it is slightly disappointing news, in that, we have to delay the start for a week. Believe it or not we have been hampered by the weather! This may sound strange with it being such glorious weather lately, but thats just the problem. A new terrain needs lots of rain and rollering to settle it down, and of course we happen to have the driest spring on record. We are though trying hard to speed things up. Of course all new terrains take several months and, perhaps, a full winter of weathering to settle fully, but our aim has been to get it in a playable state now, then usage will also help speed the process. We will now have the first session on Sunday 19th June and the second on Saturday 25th June, both from 2 - 5pm. We can then take a straw poll to find out wether Saturdays or Sundays suit most, as well as finding out which of Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday suits most for the midweek session. We look forward to seeing you at one of these first two dates and it would be helpful, though by no means essential, if you could confirm if and when you can come. Venue details and directions are below. Please accept our apologies for this delay, which I hope you will understand, and if you have any further queries please contact me. East Devon Petanque Club, Thorn Park Golf Centre, Salcombe Regis, SIDMOUTH EX10 0JN. Situated approx 1.5 miles east from Sidford, just off the main (A3052) Exeter to Seaton/Lyme Regis road. Look for the brown Golf Centre signs. |

East Devon Petanque Club (20 Apr 2011)You may have seen an article in the local papers this week about a new petanque club being set up. East Devon Petanque Club will have a new, full-sized terrain built near Sidmouth with easy access from all parts of East Devon. A spokesperson for the Club said: “We would love to hear from anyone interested in getting involved. We are sure that there is a local demand for a Petanque facility in the area. People do not need to be serious players, we’d love to welcome aboard anyone interested in the sport. There will be a meeting of all interested people in the first week of May and the Club plans to hold its first open session by the beginning of June”. Anyone interested is asked to contact Chris Bigmore on 07952 645319 or email him at eastdevonpetanque@hotmail.co.uk. |

Eyre Court Executives withdraw (29 Mar 2011)Unfortunately I've just been informed that Eyre Court Executives have had to withdraw from the league, due to lack of players. The remainder of their players will, I believe, be scattered amongst the Royal Clarence sides. As a result, Division 2 sides will now have two further byes in the year, Beer Club have a walkover in the 1st Round of the Whitbread Cup, and the Pairs Qualifying night that was to be held at Eyre Court has now been moved to the Royal Clarence. Fixtures and all Cup draws have been amended accordingly, click on the links to the left to see the updated versions. |
|
2011 Fixtures and Cup Draws (1 Mar 2011)The fixture list and cup draws for 2011 are now available from the links on the left. The free draw has produced a piste clash in the Whitbread Cup, with three Kingfisher teams (Kingfisher A, Kingfisher Rebels and Whitford Warriors) being drawn at home in the first round. One of the matches will have to be played on an alternative night; alternatively, Kingfisher A could play their match against Golden Wonders at The Golden Hind (the other two teams cannot switch). |
|
2011 Team Changes (1 Mar 2011)We have the same 28 teams in 2011 as we had for 2010; however, Axmouth FC have moved and are now Colyton FC, and Gerrard Arms B have renamed themselves Red Balls. |
